Spanish Black Bulls
Three of the twenty Osborne bulls in Andalucia have become national monuments along with some land around them. They are located in Benahadux in Almería, Córdoba and Santa Elena in Jaén.
The silhouettes of black bulls were erected by Osborne sherry producers as part of their publicity campaign between 1958 and the late 70s but in the early 1990´s when advertising on national roads was banned they were taken down. Huge protests by the Spanish won and the bulls were allowed to remain without the advertising on them.
They are now regarded as a national symbol (although unrecognised) of Spain and a representation of Andalusian culture.
The other seventeen bulls in Andalucia, most of which stand 13,13 metres tall, are in the process of being registered.
