Walks near Alcaudete

One of the many lovely walks near Alcaudete is from the old station to the lakes of Laguna Honda and Laguna del Chinche.

Laguna Honda, which means deep lake, is in a reserva natural in the area of Alcaudete called Tumbaleja. It covers 65 hectares and Laguna del Chinche 6,5 hectares. They are only two kilometres apart so a great circular walk can be done taking in both lakes.

Laguna Honda is between 400 and 500 metres above sea level and has a high salt content. A wide variety of birds can be seen here and often in the autumn flocks of flamingos grace its waters.

To walk to the lakes your car can be parked in the old Alcaudete train station just off the Martos to Alcaudete road. The old Via Verde or greenway then crosses this main road. The surface of the track is great for walks or bikes. This is the Via Verde de Aceite.
