Torredonjimeno

Torredonjimeno is another major olive oil producing town just off the A316. It has an old station and the Via Verde de Aceite runs through here.

It's not a particularly attractive town whichever way you enter it but find your way into the old part and there's a delightful plaza in front of the Ayuntamiento with a bar or two to soak up the atmosphere.

Take a walk around the back of the Ayuntamiento to discover the church and part of the city castle and walls under restoration.

The church is right next to the castle which is on the Ruta de Castillo y Batallas- Route of the Castles and Battles.

Mosaic emblem of the Castle which was built by the Muslims at the end of the 12th and early 13th century. After the reconquest it was restored and enlarged by the Order of Calatrava creating a better defense against the attacking Muslim army. In the Middle Ages it became a Gentleman's Residence and as such was occupied until the twentieth century.

Torredonjimeno has a fresh feeling municipal pool with four different sizes, from a baby pool to an olympic sized one. Make a day of it and take a packed lunch. This must be left up on the balconies, eating isn't allowed on the grassy areas around the pools.

Cross the main Cordoba road and just 1km along is the beautiful Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Consolación XIV.
