Golf Cádiz

The undoubted jewel in the crown of the 15 golf courses in the Cadiz region is the world famous Valderrama Golf Course, but it is not the only championship course with the Montecastillo Golf Resort and Novo Sancti Petri Golf also having stages professional tournaments.

Part-designed by Spain’s very own Seve Ballesteros, Valderrama, near Sotogrande, is Europe’s number one ranked course and will always be remembered as the scene of Europe’s Ryder Cup victory over the United States in 1997. If conquering this most difficult of courses you will be following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods, who won tournaments at Valderrama in 1999 and 2000. There is also a tricky nine-hole par-3 course at Valderrama.

Like Valderrama, the Montecastillo Golf Resort, situated next to the Formula One circuit in Jerez, has staged to season-ending event on the European Tour. It is a picturesque course with some breathtaking views from the elevated tee boxes. Novo Sancti Petri Golf, once home to the Turespaña Masters Open, is a beachside course with 36 holes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean close to Cadiz and is another Ballesteros design.

Sotogrande Golf Course practise zone

There is a concentration of golf courses around Sotogrande, with Valderrama being joined by Alcaidesa Links, a links golf course with views of Gibraltar, The San Roque Golf Club, home to the Andalucian base of the European Tour and one of the longest courses in Andalucia, Sotogrande Golf Course, the oldest in the region which boasts a short nine-hole par-3 course in addition to the beachside 18-hole course, Almenara Golf, situated in the hills above Sotogrande, and Le Canada Golf, a municipal course built for the people of Guardiaro.

Around Cadiz there are plenty of options in the form of El Campano, a nine-hole course close to Novo Sancti Petri Golf, Golf El Peutro, a pleasant course that offers a test for players of all abilities, Vista Hermosa, a private nine-hole course, and Costa Bellana Golf, the work of Jose Maria Olazabal which has an 18-hole course and a nine-hole par-3 course to choose from.

Benalup Golf, situated in the hills close to the city of Benalup, is a fairly new addition to Andalucia’s golfing options having opened in 2001, while in the nearby Vejer de la Frontera is Dehesa Montenmedio Golf, a wide-open course in the tranquil countryside. Golf Las Dunas de Donana, near Matalascan¡, offers a combination of links and parkland golf in its 18-hole set-up.
