El Chorro

El Chorro is found in the Paraje Natural Desfiladero de los Gaitanes a protected area of the Subbetica mountain range in the north of Malaga province. It's an immense 3km long natural gorge of stratified limestone cut through by the River Guadalhorce.

Reservoir, Rio Guadalhorce,

With its 400 metre high walls this is one the most famous climbing spots in Europe and has 500 bolted climbing routes some right on the road side. Because the cliffs are so sheer most of the routes are difficult ones which, together with the mild climate, is what attracts climbers from around the world.

The Kings Walkway

Also called Camino or Caminito del Rey is a narrow iron path which is suspended from the sheer cliff face. It was built to connect the Salto del Chorro and the Salto del Gaitanejo cliff faces to enable transport, surveillance and maintenance.

After leaving the resevoir heading towards Ardales take the mirador turning which climbs 4km to a viewpoint which opens out an incredible panorama back towards Malaga and on a clear day, the Mediterranean Sea. Vultures greeted us, soaring across the parking spot at a very close distance.
