Climbing Andalucia

Climbing Andalucia

Andalucia has been called "litte Switzerland" and offers some of Europe's best climbing after the Alps, so it's not surprising that there is plenty of challenging rock faces around.

The most famous area for climbing in Andalucia is El Chorro just 50 Km inland from Malaga. This consists of a hugh gorge offering some fantastic rock climbing with over 650 routes of all grades and pitches.

The areas of Sierra de las Nieves between Ronda and Malaga or Sierra Almijara are also popular climbing bases as well as the Subética Cordobés, Sierra de Grazalema, Sierra Magina in Jaén, Sierra Filambres and Sierra Maria in Almería.

Most of the the rock climbing in Andalucia is on limestone rock, with an occasional one of slate or sandstone rock, and most of the bolted routes are single pitch, with some 2 and 3 pitches apart from El Chorro which has pitches up to 10.
