Asparagus Fiesta

There are many diverse fiestas but all include food and eating as a large part of the fun - this fiesta is all about Asparagus.

Celebrated in town of Sierra de Yeguas near Antequera to celebrate their main export - Asparagus.

Around 1.5 million kilos of asparagus are produced here every year and about one third of the population of the town work in the Asparagus industry.

Taking place around the 27th April for a week each year The Asparagus Fair attracts more than 5000 visitors who come to enjoy this delicous vegetable which can be found out on the streets and side stalls in omelettes, scrambled, grilled or in the marvellous revuelto.

There is of course plenty of other choice gastronomic delights to try, paella, cheese, olive oil and wine.

The fiesta is an ever increasing display of organic produce and local craftware is also for sale.
