Andalusian-horses

The Andalusian horse has to be the most noble of all pure bred races. Its history is long, and during the Roman occupation of Spain, writers were praising the qualities of this native Spanish horse.

The Moors also recognised their unique qualities and cross-bred the Andalusian pure bred with their own Arab and Berber horses.

These horses were they taken by Columbus and the Spanish conquistadors to the New World. They also became the royal horse of Denmark - the Neapolitan horse, between 1504 and 1713 when Naples was under Spanish rule.

A Spanish Riding School was established in Vienna in 1572 to educate the nobility; it was called Spanish because from its initiation only Spanish stallions were used.

The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez is the best place to see these wonderful animals and performances take place every week in the summer months at its riding school, next to the Palacio de las Cadenas.
