House Swap in Frigiliana, Nerja

Ive done it. My first house swap, ok so it was last minute and only two nights but it was great.

We escaped, husband, youngest son and I, without the two older ones. Our first break with just three of us!

Frigiliana just 6km inland from Nerja was our destination. The old part of Frigiliana was very pretty, steep yes, commercialised very much getting there, but nevertheless the charm of narrow cobbled streets, pots oozing with colour and old railings are just my thing!

Trip reports and photos coming soon!

Castles and Garden Centers in Andalucia

It's coming up that time of year when I have to start murmuring about birthdays.

You've guessed it, my birthday to be exact. With four males in the house and the organiser being me, well I have to make "big" hints as to what I would like to do for my birthday.

My eldest two being 19 and 17, this is an unmissable opportunity for a family day trip. With no complaints, beforehand any way.

Last year I did really well. We got my (our) bedroom painted in the morning and went on a castle visit Baos de la Encina AND a garden center in the afternoon.

On the way home my eldest admitted that the day had been OK and we ought to do the same every year so he wouldn't have to think or buy a present in advance!

So what to do this year? My want of the moment is either The Alhambra, which we have been to before and definately want to see again or the Medina Azahara just 5km from Cordoba.

This is an incredible Moorish town that was started by califa Abd alRahman III, today it's a restoration site.

What to do? So much to see, so many places I want to explore and don't forget I love Ronda.

Wild Orchids, Asparagus, Sunburn and Climbing

I didn't do all of that, but can you believe I forgot to take my camera.

As always at Easter we got together with our Spanish pastor and family to picnic on the mountain Sierra Ahillo, Jaen.

The "girls" go asparagus and mushroom hunting and the "boys" cave hunting and rock climbing.

Today Easter Friday was gorgeous, after an atrociously wet winter the sun was strong and after several hours of wandering among the undergrowth I looked like a beetroot.

Compensated by a healthy crop of asparagus (which I should be cooking now.)

I was pretty mad with myself for not having brought the camera when I discovered a wild orchid I'd not seen before. A bit like a large fritillery (an upside-down tulip to my hubby.) Just off to google and find out what it was.

Sorry this is a common orchid, I saw loads of these today.

</

The guys enjoyed their rock climbing, there are no bolted routes here like the many other venues they go to around Jaen.

Looking for somewhere to stay in this area for mountain biking and climbing?
Take a look at our Spanish registered holiday home Casa Rural El Reguelo
